Finding Purpose Doesn’t Require a Career Change
For a long time, I believed that if I wanted to find real purpose, I’d probably have to walk away from corporate life entirely.
But over time, I realised something that changed everything:
Finding balance is possible. And purpose doesn’t require a complete career reset.
The “either/or” story we’re told
So many people in the corporate world feel a tension they can’t quite name.
They’re ambitious. They want to grow. They want to do well. But they also care — about community, the planet, fairness, and doing work that matters.
And yet the story we often hear is:
“Corporate life is just corporate life.”
“Impact work is separate.”
“If you care, you’ll eventually leave.”
What I’ve learned instead
Purpose isn’t only found by leaving.
Purpose can be built within corporate life — through the choices we make, the standards we set, the conversations we start, and the communities we create.
Your corporate role can be a platform, because it gives you access to skills, networks, influence, and opportunities that can be used for good.
And you don’t need to be the most senior person in the room to start.
Balance looks different for everyone
For some people, balance might mean volunteering once a month.
For others, it might mean starting a conversation at work that changes how people think.
For others, it might mean building something alongside the day job — even if it’s messy and slow.
Balance isn’t about doing everything.
It’s about doing what you can, consistently, in a way that feels aligned.
You’re not alone in wanting more
If you’ve ever felt like you want more meaning in your working life — without throwing everything away — I want you to know:
You’re not alone.
There are so many people who care deeply and want to contribute.
And the more we connect with each other, the easier it becomes to see what’s possible.
Because collective influence changes things.
Employees shape culture.
Culture shapes priorities.
Priorities shape change.
You don’t have to quit
You don’t have to quit.
You don’t have to start over.
You don’t have to have it all figured out.
You can build purpose where you are and figure it out along the way.
